I was first introduced to these model racing cars as a 15 year old when I was living in Christchurch. Almost every moment of my day was spent dreaming about, building or racing slot cars.

Christchurch was a great place for a kid to grow up with two commercial slot car raceways, both with two 8-lane race tracks. When the slot car "fad" died in the late 60's, I sadly thought that so had my favourite hobby.

Thirty years later when I was working at the Petone Tenpin Bowling Centre, two gentlemen approached management to discuss hiring the then disused lounge by the local slot car club. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that my childhood hobby was still very much alive. Needless to say, it didn't take me long to get back into "the swing of things".
